[NOTE: my apologies to those of you out there who may be driving a white mini-van. that is unless you are a horrible driver (and you know who you are...). I am sure that there are a number of you out there who can competently navigate the roads of this urban landscape without wrecking havok and mayhem... this is not about you. This is about the others]
Beware the white mini-van. I had no less than FOUR encounters with y'all this weekend. And I am telling you, the next one of you who nearly sideswipes my vehicle while you are reached around backward trying to shove crackers in your kid's screaming face... well, I shudder to think of what I might be capable of. I am calling each of you out today. If you see these women and this man careening towards you, get off the road.
Friday, June 17 5:35 PM traveling west on 1st street -- Traffic laws are meant for everyone... including you. I know that red lights can be particularly irritating, especially when one is running late. But, cutting from the middle lane to the right lane (no blinker) and then abruptly turning right and hooking a u-turn on Riverside to get back on 1st, just to avoid a red light is not only rude, but also dangerous. As I am pretty sure you didn't notice, you almost caused 3 accidents and got the finger from 5 people. All that just to get the Whataburger drive thru? I mean it's good, but it would have been good 10 minutes later.
Friday, June 17 6:03 PM traveling south on 1 -- Sir, it is generally considered unsafe to attempt to exit right in less than 100 feet, when one is travelling in the far left lane at a speed of 75 MPH WITHOUT using one's blinker. If you don't let us know that you are coming, we cannot brace ourselves by locking our arms on the steering wheel and slamming on the brakes. Perhaps you were confused by all of the signs indicating that your exit was coming up, perhaps you don't know your right from your left.
Saturday, June 18 11:25 AM mall parking lot -- When driving in a crowded area, it is best to keep your eyes on the road and not on the crackers you are trying to jam into your child's screaming face. Maybe he doesn't want a cracker. By paying attention to where you are driving, you might avoid almost hitting a parked car and then (in an effort to avoid that parked car) rear-ending the car that has stopped at the stop sign... (not me, but another poor unfortunate)
And finally, Sunday June 19th (Father's Day) traveling west on urban street in suburban location -- Texas is not NJ, and I am not sure how you can be confused on this point. In this state, if you want to make a left turn, you have to BE IN THE LEFT LANE. Only in NJ, do you go right to make a left. And since there are no 'jug-handles' here in central Texas, that should have been clear. We also can pump our own gas... It is a miracle that the old lady in the station wagon didn't have a heart attack when you came careening from the right, cut her off and almost forced her into the front of a bread delivery truck... I guess that it would have been too much trouble for you to go one more light and turn around. Your action was much more efficient.
Now, I am not a perfect driver. I speed, this is true. But people, please use some common sense. Get aquainted with your blinkers, and if you can't get to your exit without causing a 12 car pile-up crossing 3 lanes of traffic... do us all a favor, head to the next exit and turn around.
Just a friendly word of advice from a fellow traveler...
